the official bio

SEBASTIEN GRAINGER and THE MOUNTAINS

Sebastien Grainger and The Mountains is not really a band, it's the idea of a band. When Grainger set out to make his first solo record he weighed his options- in one hand he held a guitar and a microphone and, in the other, he held everything else. For the last year, amidst sporadic emergences onstage, he's been in his studio working and reworking a set of songs that have become the content of his numerous debut releases.

Touring as a four piece band, songs that were originally written alone in the stillness of night, became energized. Made livelier, these songs were brought back to the studio to be given Grainger's layered, "wall of sound" production. The outcome is a new sound that followers of his previous musical endeavors may be surprised to hear- this is a clear melodic statement. And while his new songs may have an affinity for the the balladry of days gone by, Grainger manages to remain contemporary.

While Grainger will modestly tell you "every song is a problem, or an equation that I have to resolve," it's obvious that the outcomes are richer and more soulful than mere resolvability. Feeling like he is finally expressing himself on these new recordings, Grainger is eager to return to the road and entwine himself in the cultural fabric. Although he's a self-described 'domestic person', Grainger's penchant for singing loud, performing and getting sweaty is real- as real as people's enthusiasm for him to keep doing so.

And with a 7", a digital EP and a full length all slated to drop in the next couple of months, the world will undoubtedly be seeing a lot more of Sebastien Grainger. And with regards to the new full length, he comments, "this record is an opening statement but in no way do I think it's a map of things to come...it's a 'jump off'...hopefully a solid step back into the world." He's quick to add "I still haven't written my Thunder Road" and, like all craftsmen enamored with their craft, Sebastien Grainger wouldn't stop even if he did.

well well well. here we are and it's almost spring. the band and i are having a real great time playing around. freak outs abound! so, no SOLID word on the record, but i will say that the label details are being ironed out right now, which means that soon there will be a release date! i should also mention that the 7" that was to be released on RECTANGLE RECORDS will be released on a different label instead...and unfortunately not until the sun is a bit warmer...the good news is, it will be the lead release/single for the LP which will likely see your CD players and ipods come harvest time/back to school...let's all eat fresh apples and listen to my record shall we?

we're playing alot in march and i am super excited. i'm gonna post more news soon.

i got the 7" mastered last week and sent it off to RECTANGLE RECORDS!!! There should be a release date (online and vinyl) for that soon, also my side/party project RHYTHM METHOD 7"/Digital is coming soon, zoe spoke to the label (alakazm) this week and they should have a date this week.
IN OTHER RELATED NEWS...
I've been talking back and forth with a few labels and we are finally planning the 2008 release of (what will probably be) my first full length....i can't wait to put these songs out that i've been sitting on and GET ON THE ROAD to see you all...i am really eager to start playing more and getting new fans the way you're supposed to get new fans....not online, but onstage...ALSO, we have a bunch of shows in ONTARIO/QUEBEC coming up in march...PARTY!

eva and i went to the symphony tonight for the first time. it was amazing. mozarts 40th, plus some various arias. it made me want to travel back in time and actually learn how to play these things. on a different note, look how cool moondog is.

look him up.

maybe i am bored, maybe i should "just finish my record already!"...but i definitley just re-designed my website again. gimme all the shit you want!

january 6 2008

i just learned last week that the label that was meant to release my rhythm method 7" has (kinda) gone splitz! so that explains the delay...the record will still come out in the UK but on a different label (possibly called ALAKAZM)...the songs are still slamming and the cover art is ABOSLUTELY RIDICULOUS...it was a creative jam between WILL SWEENEY and i, that he put to life in the most obscene way. here's a preview... i am pretty sure it'll come with a digital download as well. you simply must buy it!

well, i've updated the website to make it more efficient. i liked the retarded design of the last one, but it was using up so much bandwidth being retarded, it was retarded. check back for updates. i will write here more frequently. see ya!
